Historical Background of Pallotti Children Hope Centre

Pallotti Children Hope Centre is a boarding Centre for Children with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities . the centre which is first of its kind in Rwanda, is founded by a German organization known as Wir Fϋr Rwanda. This Organization realized through Dr. Bernd BIERBUM, how maginalized and excluded children with intellectual disabilities were,and still are from many services being enjoyed by other members of society. in 2004 Wir Fϋr Rwanda developed the idea to build up a centre for these children to improve their living conditions including a unique training programme for instructors in Special Needs and inclusive Education.construction work started in 2007 and will go on four years setting up more infrastructures to expand the centre. the centre started its work in 2011 starting with 12 children and 4 teachers. in 2003 we had more than 80 children with intellectual disabilities.but the need of Rwandan society is higher than our capacity. Many children with disabilities continue to be hidden in the houses and many die in silent of the families. in 2020, the we for Rwanda Children Hope Centre was transferred to the society of Apostolic Catholic and takes the name of Pallotti Children Hope Centre.
